Earlier this winter, the Scarlet Knights secured a big commitment at the tight end position when they landed Tenafly High School's Nakia Griffin.  The 6-5, 220-pound athlete had interest from Maryland, Temple, and other significant Division-I programs, but ultimately, he felt that staying in the Garden State was the right move for him.

"It feels good to have the recruiting process over and done with," Griffin told  "Rutgers is on the right path as a program and the coaches are great and they know what they have to do to be successful. I really expect big things from them in the near future."

For Griffin, the opportunity to stay at home and help build a strong recruiting class for RU sealed the deal.  Now that he knows where he'll be headed after graduation, the only thing on his mind is working hard and getting better at his craft.

"I'm a hard working kid who is always trying to improve.  Nothing is good enough.  For me, a win is only won win there is always so many more games that have to be won again. I don't celebrate until the main mission is complete and that's holding up a crystal ball, so, I will bring a hard working no nonsense type of work ethic.  I want to be a role model for everyone else on my team," Griffin explained.

Even though he has seen time at wide receiver, slot receiver, tight end, safety, outside linebacker, and defensive end, it's widely expected that tight end will be his bread and butter on the banks.  Griffin didn't see many Ws at Tenafly, a program that went 1-9 last year, but he's very enthusiastic about the chance to win at Rutgers.

"Not to talk down on my team, but the kids here don't take the game seriously.  I take the game seriously and I'm excited to show everyone what I can do," said Griffin, who runs a 4.67 second 40-yard-dash.

While Griffin has the height at 6-foot-5 for the tight end position, he's a little thin for the role at just 220 pounds.  The Scarlet Knights have asked him to pack on some muscle but he tells that he hasn't been given a specific goal weight.  Regardless, he'll be in the gym nonstop from now until his arrival on campus.

"I plan on training with EJ Barthel but the (Rutgers) staff did not give me a reporting weight yet", he said. "I want to enjoy my last year and just play the game I love and stay safe. As for my goals for my RU career, those goals will be formed when I step on campus".
